Are You Falling For This?

1 year ago, in May of 2024, I strived to start my own business.

I watched a YouTube video of this guy named Dickie Bush talking about how I could make over $1,000,000 dollars through ghostwriting.

His instructions?

• Join Twitter

• Post for 1 full year

• Grow a following, attract customers

• Do free work to get good

• Attract inbounds

That was pretty much it.

And me being new to the business world, let alone the online business world, I though, “wow, great idea!! I can just do this instead of getting a job!!”

So I did.

I posted for 3 months, until I realized that I still had zero clients (not even free ones), zero results, and was still broke.

So I got a job as a marketing intern.

I studied business & marketing in college.

I read over 75 marketing books.

I learned constantly.

And I had a realization…

People like Dickie Bush make money preying on beginners!

At the time, I thought it was innocent.

He just wanted to help people level-up their ghostwriting skill and build a better business.

And while it may work for some people, most people buy his $700 course only to get left in the dust.

Because they don’t understand enough for it to even help. Or they don’t know where to start. Or, just maybe, a college degree is still one of the best ways to learn something, no matter what gurus online tell you.

If you don’t believe me, I’ve got another example why online guru businesses are all very similar.

A month ago, my boss sent me a Tiktok. He’s one of those people who falls for the AI fear-mongering fairly easily. You say one thing about AI and he goes:

“OMG SO COOL!!! AI’S GONNA TAKE ALL THE MARKETING JOBS! FANTASTIC!”

Seriously, he’s for some reason obsessed with wanting our jobs getting taken away.

But anywho — the video he sent me was about AI taking our jobs lol.

The guy said:

“99% of the work that’s done by video editors will soon be done by AI!!!

They’ll soon be able to generate images and edit them into your videos!!

Long gone are the days where you need 5 video editors for 1 video!”

And that was pretty much the entire video.

I clicked on his profile…

Tapped the link in bio…

Took one link and saw, to no surprise…

He was selling an AI course!

I’m telling you, it’s so predictable.

The gurus figure out your problems.

They create a course to fix said problem.

They sell you the dream of fixing that problem.

You buy the course, and it never helps.

And boom. That’s the cycle.

As I said in the title…

Don’t Fall For It.
