Do you sell running shoes? Here's why your email list isn't buying and what you can do about it

The solution is simpler than you think.
Email Marketing is insanely popular these days.
More popular than social media marketing, SEO, AND paid advertising (according to Google & Pinterest Trends).
So, business owners give it a try because gurus praise email marketing as the gospel.
But guess what?
The email doesn't work, and people don't buy.
Why?
Well, if you don't have these 3 things in your emails, they're never going to:
1. Hook
The hook reels them in.
It's the first sentence in your email, so it needs to be extremely surprising or eye-catching in some way.
(This is different for every market.)
Let's say I'm selling running shoes.
I send out an email once/week, with a graphic with the shoes on it and a little bit of copy.
We tell them "50% OFF!"
Does that look enticing?
Or does it just look like the same marketing in their inbox?
It's the same thing.
They'll immediately click off.
Want to make it stand out?
Instead:
• Get rid of the graphic
• Add one small picture of the shoe at the top of the email
• Write a mostly plain email
• Include this hook: "How a bald man got his hair back because of the Razor 351 Trailblazers!"
(I'm not sure if that's a real shoe haha)
But why that hook?
It's intriguing.
It throws us into a story.
It's specific and entertaining.
That leads us right into the...
2. Story
This is where you'll tell a story in your email.
You'll write about how the bald man slipped, was able to keep their balance because of the Razor 351 Trailblazers, almost lost their life, but was saved.
Something like that.
This story should be 200 words, no more than 300.
I've noticed e-commerce businesses have a tougher time keeping retention with this kind of email. But they're definitely more entertaining than "50% OFF!".
Lastly, once the story is over, we move onto the...
3. Offer
This is simply where you make the offer.
Since you told a story, it becomes much easier.
You can just say:
"And if you want to save your own life, you can buy the Razor 351 Trailblazers below:"
It's literally that simple.
