What Donating Blood Taught Me About Business

About 6 months ago, I started donating blood.

There were a few reasons why I wanted to:

  1. I had too many Red Blood Cells, so I had a higher risk of getting a blood clot. (Simply put, I have a higher risk of getting a heart attack and a few other problems. So donating blood lowers that risk.)

  2. I wanted to help people. There are many people who need blood for their own medical problems, and it feels good to help them out.

  3. Snacks. At the end of every blood donation, there are snacks. 😋

The first time I did it, honestly, I was scared.

Every person I talked to told me that the needle used for donating blood was bigger than your average needle. Meaning it hurt more, and there was more blood.

But the more I donated blood, the less scared of the needle I became.

So this part week when I donated blood, fear didn’t even cross my mind. I walked into the big brown building, went through the routine iron-level and disease check, and I hopped on the bed to get poked with the needle.

It was easy.

Simple.

Fun.

Because I wasn’t scared anymore.

(Plus, it gave me a chance to unwind on my phone for 25 minutes.)

And I’ve noticed, many business owners have a similar problem.

They’re scared to try new things.

They fear hiring new people.

They’re unsure of marketing.

But the truth?

You’re NEVER going to be sure of anything if you don’t try.
